47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Behold, a true Israelite, in whom there is no deception.”[a] 48 Nathanael asked him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip summoned you, when you were under the fig tree,[b] I saw you.” 49 Nathanael said to him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.”

- John 1:47 A true Israelite, in whom there is no deception: this phrase recalls the fact that Jacob was the first to bear the name “Israel” (Gen 32:29), but he was an “Israelite” in whom there was deception (Gen 27:35-36).
